Historical Context:

Apollo 12 was NASA’s second lunar landing, following Apollo 11. The crew achieved a precise touchdown near the Surveyor 3 probe (which they visited and sampled parts from). Conrad and Bean spent over 31 hours on the Moon, conducting two EVAs and collecting 34 kg of samples. Gordon remained in lunar orbit. The mission proved the Saturn V and lunar operations could be repeated successfully and helped pave the way for future scientific exploration of the Moon.
