Attractive 1941 Romanian silver 500 Lei commemorative coin issued to celebrate the Bessarabia Reunion. In 1940 the Soviet Union had annexed Bessarabia (a historic Romanian territory); in 1941 Romanian forces, allied with Germany during Operation Barbarossa, re-took the region. This large silver issue marked that short-lived victory and national reunification.

Obverse: Young head of King Michael I left with “MIHAI I REGELE ROMANILOR” and date 1941.

Reverse: Crowned kneeling figure presenting the model of Putna Monastery with legend referencing Moldavia / St. Stephen / Victory in Romania and denomination 500 LEI.
