Super lustrous 1916 Portuguese silver 1 Escudo from the early years of the Portuguese Republic. Features the classic Liberty head on the obverse and the national arms on the reverse. A short-lived two-year type (1915–1916) that is popular with European crown collectors.
Obverse: Liberty head left with wheat wreath and “REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA 1916”.
Reverse: Crowned Portuguese shield within globe/cross design, denomination “1 ESCUDO” within laurel wreath.
